Abstract Energy transition and decarbonization in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is crucial to achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7 global climate objectives. This article first highlights serious impact of imminent longer-term threats region caused by rising temperatures change risks. As a shared problem, analyses how countries GCC are individually collectively responding threat, exploring recent revised 2020 Nationally Determined Contributions delivered advance Conference Parties 26, as well energy targets. On this basis, evaluates legal strategies decarbonize switch cleaner economies. The also clean transitions can help deliver environmental economic dividends, achieve sustainable economy envisioned SDG7.
